Elana Cohn is a sculptor living and working in Israel. She studied sculpting, drawing composition and calligraphy at the Avni Institute in Tel Aviv, and is a graduate of a four year program from the Basis School of Sculpture, Israel. She studied under Alexander Serber and Gal Weinstein and completed advanced courses in metal welding, fusing, ceramics, lamp working and silversmithing.
Elana draws from her continuously challenging life experiences for inspiration. Contemporary life in Israel, motherhood, marriage, and her solid background in Judaism have deeply influenced her art. A nature lover and hiker, she has traveled extensively worldwide, and infuses her life experiences into each piece.
Educated as a lawyer, sculpting has always been her calling, even while she was practicing law and raising four children. Together with her husband, Anatoly, she is a co-founder and full time associate of APCO Aviation Ltd., a leader in the field of sport aviation. During the past year Elana has channeled more of her efforts towards developing her art and returning to her real passion. In recent years, she has deepened her love for light and its many creative possibilities, and has focused on working with fused glass and wood in a myriad of applications: by combining traditional bronze castings and ceramic pieces with elements of fused glass, by meshing fused glass with silversmithing, by creating artistic fused glass Judiaca, and by designing one-of-a-kind fused glass jewelry pieces: pendants, earrings, bracelets, and brooches. Elana has also developed "window jewelry", that uses unique, almost invisible tape to affix beautiful reflective fused glass pieces to windows, mirrors, showers, etc., creating eye catching, light transferring "jewels", that add color and uniqueness to any surface, transparent or not.
Elana is also involved in the specialized field of Medallic Art, and has made many medals, both commemorative and decorative. She has participated in several international medallic art competitions, and recently executed a series of 30 glass medallions celebrating Anima Spiritus Violin, in honor of Issac Stern, including homages to Marc Chagall. A member of FIDEM, she has also submitted her work to Medallic Art competitions in Portugal.
